State Competition Results - Congratulations to Mount Si High School students who recently represented our community in state-level competitions.

Mount Si's Culinary Education Featured - The ProStart Culinary Arts education program at Mount Si High School has been featured in the February 2012 issue of Washington Restaurant Magazine as "a win-win opportunity for restaurants and teens alike." Click here to read the full article which includes an interview with Mount Si graduate Jerry Weathers, who is now a sous chef for the Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Course and owns a catering business.

Educational Program and Facilities Planning - Planning for how our Snoqualmie Valley schools can best serve the needs of a growing student population continues to be a priority in the district. This topic has been the goal of several bond campaigns, extensive research and discussion on options, and hundreds of hours of community involvement over the past several years.

3 Schools Earn Wash. Achievement Awards - Three Snoqualmie Valley schools have earned 2011 Washington Achievement Awards from the State Board of Education and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). This award recognizes the top 5% of highest-performing schools on the basis of state test scores, graduation rates and closing achievement gaps over time.

2011 Youth Citizen of the Year - Mount Si High School senior Heidi DeHart was named the 2011 Youth Citizen of the Year, by North Bend's Mayor Ken Hearing and City Councilmembers in January.  DeHart was selected for this first-time award, based on her leadership, community service and academic excellence.

Students Qualify for State Competitions - Good luck to many Mount Si students whose talents and hard work have qualified them to compete in state level competitions in the coming weeks.

Speech & Debate Team Excels - Congratulations to four MSHS students: brothers Andrew and Ryan Hartman, and Jeremy Knight and Will Richards for have qualified to compete at the State Speech and Debate tournament next month at Gonzaga University in Spokane.  Good luck!

Greg Hart --Assistant Principal of the Year! - Greg Hart, Associate Principal and Athletic Director at Mount Si High School, has been named the 2011-12 Distinguished League Assistant Principal of the Year by the KingCo League Conference.


Robotics Teams Rally in 1st Competition - Snoqualmie Valley students competed - and took home honors - in the FIRST® LEGO® League Regional Qualifiers competition on December 3, 2011, in Seattle.

Our Rapping School Bus Driver - Snoqualmie Valley school bus driver Chuck Smith has a special way to share important safety tips with his school-aged passengers...through a musical rap song he wrote and performs for his students!

MSHS Jazz Band Competes Nationally - Mount Si High School's Jazz Band 1 was recently accepted into the Swing Central Jazz Festival in Savannah, Georgia--as one of 12 top auditioning jazz bands in the nation!

Students Add Holiday Cheer through Charity - Throughout our Snoqualmie Valley schools, students of all ages are engaged in a wide range of charitable acts this holiday season. The impressive list that follows features just some of the activities taking place in our schools that are helping other families, strengthening our community, and supporting service men and women abroad. 

2011 School Nurse of the Year --Cathi Woolley! - The March of Dimes announced Cathi Woolley as the 2011 School Nurse of the Year, at a special awards breakfast this morning, December 8, at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.

The March of Dimes Nurse of the Year program honors outstanding Western Washington nurses-- for contributions that have made a significant impact in their community, on their patients and to the profession of nursing. This year, approximately 105 nurses were nominated for 14 different categories.

Coach of the Year - Mount Si's Bonnie Foote - The Seattle Times recently named Mount Si High School's volleyball coach Bonnie Foote as the 2011 Coach of the Year - an honor that considers all high school athletics. Also, for a third year in a row, the KingCo Conference voted Foote the 3A Volleyball Coach of the Year -in 2011, 2010 and 2009!

Amazing Artist Chirag Vedullapalli - Chirag Vedullapalli, a 5th grader at Fall City Elementary School, has an amazing story to tell. His love for art and how he is using his talents to help others was recently honored by Amazing Kids! Magazine - an award-winning, national online publication created by kids and teens.

MSHS Musician Joins Grammy Jazz Band - Congratulations to Mount Si High School senior Matthew Bumgardner who was recently selected by audition to join the prestigious high school Grammy Jazz Band. He will spend 10 days in Los Angeles in February, performing at over a dozen events associated with the actual 2012 Grammy Awards. Bumgardner will be one of four trombone players in this group, which has 17 members all together.

SMS Writers Recognized - Snoqualmie Middle School 7th grader Sarah Bosworth wrote an essay that was recently chosen as the regional Puget Sound area winner in a youth writing contest sponsored by the Veterans of the Foreign Wars. This was the second level of competition in the annual VFW Patriot's Pen Essay Contest, where students in grades 6-8 nationwide have the opportunity to write essays expressing their view on democracy with the theme: "Are You Proud of Your Country?" Bosworth's essay now advances to a state contest level.

Educators Earn National Board Certification - Congratulations to nine Snoqualmie Valley school teachers who were recently awarded 2011 National Board Certification for their Professional Teaching Standards.

Focus on Education School Tour - A special "Focus on Education" School Tour event took place on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 to celebrate American Education Week. During this first-time event, community members and local business leaders were invited to join Superintendent Joel Aune, for an inside view of our Snoqualmie Valley public schools.

"So many great things are happening in our Snoqualmie Valley schools every day. We wanted to provide this opportunity for community members to visit classrooms and see for themselves the inspiring work of our students and staff, and to learn how our educational programs are evolving with the use of technology and focused instructional practices," explained Aune.

Junior All-State Musicians Named -Outstanding 6th, 7th, and 8th grade music students from across Washington State recently received top honors by being selected to participate in the Junior All-State bands, choirs and orchestra.

Congratulations to 12 students from our three Snoqualmie Valley middle schools named as All-State Junior musicians! They are among the 375 outstanding young musicians selected across the state based on auditions submitted to the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA).


SVSD on AP Achievement List--again this year! - Great News! The College Board notified Superintendent Joel Aune this week that our Snoqualmie Valley School District has, once again, been named to their prestigious AP Achievement List! Our District (specifically Mount Si High School) is one of just 367 districts nation-wide and one of only 14 districts in Washington State to earn a place on the list this year.

Ghoulish Gourdes Help Feed a Family - A little friendly competition took place this month between the three office teams at Mount Si High School -- Attendance, Counseling and Main offices. Student TA's (teaching assistants) initiated this fun activity to build upon the PRIDE initiative at the school, while also raising funds to support a local family during the holidays.

2011 Advanced Placement Scholars - Twenty nine Mount Si High School students earned 2011 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams taken last spring.

The seven outstanding National Merit Scholars were honored at our last school board meeting . Wow! It was so much fun to celebrate their achievements, hear more about them and their future plans. 

Congratulations National Merit Scholars - As a long-standing tradition at Mount Si High School, seven students from the Class of 2012 have earned the honor to hang their portraits on the prestigious "Wall of Fame" in the school's main hallway -- in recognition for their outstanding achievement through the National Merit Scholar program.

NFL Grant Improves SES Playground - With help from a special visitor-Seattle Seahawk John Carlson, Snoqualmie Elementary School unveiled new outdoor fitness equipment during an all-school assembly on October 4

Snoqualmie Valley SAT & ACT Scores -The average scores of SAT and ACT exams, that Mount Si High School students took last spring of 2011, continue to exceed Washington State and National average scores. Our District also continues to see an increase in the number of students choosing to take national college entrance exams.

2011 Advanced Placement Scholars - Twenty nine Mount Si High School students earned 2011 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams taken last spring.

Snoqualmie Valley Test Results Exceed State - Snoqualmie Valley School District students continue to score significantly higher than state averages, at all grade levels tested, in all subjects --reading, writing, math and science. One national website ranks the Snoqualmie Valley School District as eighth among school districts in the State of Washington, based on the most recent testing data from spring of 2011.

Volunteers Help Beautify Our Schools - We extend a special thank you to those in our community who recently helped prepare our school grounds for the arrival of students to begin the new school year.

New Two Rivers Principal Announced - "Amy is an impressive candidate who is held in the highest regard by the students and staff at Sequoia High School. We heard nothing but good things about her during the course of our site visit last Friday. Those with whom we spoke confirmed the perceptions of our interview team and process," shared Snoqualmie Valley Superintendent Joel Aune.

New MSHS Principal Hired - John Belcher was selected from a pool of 19 applicants and emerged from 3 finalists, following an extensive selection process. After a full day of meetings May 9 with Mount Si High School staff, students, administrators, parents, and the community members, Snoqualmie Valley Superintendent Joel Aune and Assistant Superintendent Don McConkey spent an entire day in Belcher's home school district last week. Consequently, meetings with Omak High School staff and district administrators, as well as students and parents, confirmed Belcher's capabilities, collaboration and enthusiasm.

Congratulations Class of 2011 - We congratulate 320 students from the Class of 2011 for earning their high school diploma from the Snoqualmie Valley School District.

Film Festival Winners - Joe Dockery Receives National Recognition

Northwest High School Film Festival - Mount Si students took home two awards of excellence and two honorable mentions at the 2011 Northwest High School Film Festival, May 24

Strong Support from Schools Foundation - The Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation raised over $70,000 at their Spring Fundraising Luncheon on March 24, 2011. We extend our sincerest thanks to the growing list of corporate sponsors and individuals who generously donated this year, and the many volunteers who made the inspiring event possible.

Cheerleaders Rally Donations for Babies - The Mount Si High School Cheer team recently sponsored a donation drive for baby supplies to benefit the Eastside Baby Corner. Thanks to our supportive Snoqualmie Valley community, the cheer team collected hundreds of items (worth over $3,000) plus over $400 in cash -- resulting in one of the largest donation drives the organization has ever received.

District Rated High for Return on Investment - A recent national study of public school district efficiency ranks the Snoqualmie Valley School District among the top districts in the State of Washington for its Return On Investment (ROI).

Snoqualmie Valley Makes AP Achievement List - Snoqualmie, WA - Snoqualmie Valley School District is one of 388 school districts in the nation (and one of six in Washington State) being honored by the College Board with a place on its AP® Achievement List for opening Advanced Placement (AP) classroom doors to a significantly broader pool of students, while maintaining or improving the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher.

Washington Achievement Awards - Four Snoqualmie Valley schools were recently identified as 2010 Washington Achievement Award winners by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the State Board of Education. These schools are among 186 schools that comprise the top 5% in the state on the basis of test scores, graduation rates and closing achievement gaps over time.

District Awarded Emergency Response Grant - The Snoqualmie Valley School District was recently awarded a Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) grant in the amount of $281,649, from the United States Department of Education. One of only three such grants awarded in Washington State this year, the REMS grant will provide resources over the next two years that will strengthen the school district's emergency capabilities.

2010 National Board Certified Teachers - Nine Snoqualmie Valley school teachers were recently awarded National Board Certification, bringing the total to 25 highly-accomplished educators who have earned this distinction in our District.

MSHS 2010 National Merit Scholars - Mount Si High School continues to see a rise in the number of students choosing academically rigorous courses and exams, and an increase in its student performance levels on national assessments.

NBES named 2010 School of Distinction - North Bend Elementary School was recently named a 2010 Washington School of Distinction.

2010 AP Scholar Awards - Forty-one local high school students earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Mount Si High School AP Exams last spring.

First in Science at Fall City - Last year's fifth grade students at Fall City Elementary School earned the top Science score in the state on the 2010 state assessment (called the Measurement of Student Progress---MSP).

Refinancing Bonds Saves Taxpayers Money - By taking advantage of current low interest rates to refinance a portion of its school bonds, the Snoqualmie Valley School District will save taxpayers $2,359,365 over the next ten years. These savings will flow directly to taxpayers through reduced tax levies; they are not available for District expenses.

New Snoqualmie Valley Virtual Academy - The Snoqualmie Valley School District is excited to introduce a new online educational opportunity for high school students, called the Snoqualmie Valley Virtual Academy.

Congratulations Graduates! - We congratulate Class of 2010 graduates who recently earned their diplomas from our Snoqualmie Valley Schools!

3 Schools Earn Achievement Awards - Congratulations to Cascade View Elementary, Fall City Elementary and Chief Kanim Middle School for being selected as 2009 Washington Achievement Award winners.

Musical Accolades - Jazz Band Festival Competition Mount Si High School's Jazz Band I took first place in the Viking Jazz Festival's 3A/4A division on February 5 in North Kitsap. This band also earned the best overall "Sweepstakes Award" for the 2-day festival where 24 Northwest high school jazz bands competed.

Academic Excellence On the Rise - Several factors point to an increase in the academic rigor and student performance at Mount Si High School.
